League Leaders in PTS & PIM

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

Hey Guys,

We’ve decided to introduce some friendly competition with the players in the different Chiller Leagues. On the Standings pages for each league, you’ll see some new tables like “Top Scorers” or “Most Penalties”. A good example of this in action is on the Sunday D-West Page. These tables are updated as users are entering their team’s score sheets. We plan to introduce more of these types of tables, as well as a new page displaying top players/teams across all leagues.

If you have access to your team’s score sheets, and wish to get your team in on some friendly competition, sign up today and start entering stats! Details on how to do so are found here.

Thanks,

So you’re the captain, what now?

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

This article is for anyone who’s just registered themselves as their team’s captain and their ready to enter some stats.

Getting Started:

  1. The first thing you’ll want to do is head to your team’s page. You can find this by using the “Find your team” button, or just navigate to your league’s standings page and click your team’s name.
  2. Once there, you’ll notice some new buttons in the top right that look like:
    captainsButtons

Building Your Roster:

  1. You’ll need to start by clicking “Edit Roster”. You can’t enter stats until you have a roster setup.
  2. This link will take you to a page with a blank roster table and an “Add Player” button.
  3. We’ll start by clicking “Add Player”. This will launch a dialog for entering in the player’s information seen below. The required fields are marked via asterisks. The phone number and email fields will be kept private to you.
    Add Player Dialog
  4. Once you click “Submit”, if the player doesn’t currently exist in the system, the dialog will dismiss and the player will appear in your roster table.  If the system finds a match on this player, it will present you with a 2nd dialog displaying players that match you’re entry. It will look similar to the box below:
    Existing Player Dialog
  5. If you see that the player listed matches the player you are trying to add, click “Use Me!”. Otherwise, click “Add New Player” at the bottom of the dialog. Either option will dismiss the dialog and add the player to the roster table.
  6. One by one you will enter in your roster. It should only take a couple of minutes to complete your entire roster, depending on your typing skills.
  7. When finished, return to your team page.

Adding Game Stats:

  1. So you’re roster is all complete and you’re ready to start entering stats? Great! From the team’s page, click the “Add Game Stats” button.
  2. You’ll be taken to a page with the list of games for which you can enter stats. Note: You cannot enter stats which have not yet had scores added.
  3. Click the “EDIT” link next to the game you’d like to add stats for.
  4. This will take you to the “Check In Players” screen. This page allows you to not only mark who participated in this game, but also change their jersey number just for this game. This works great for people who may have forgotten their jersey and had to play under a different number.
  5. When you’re finished checking people in, and updating jersey numbers, click “Continue”. Note: The “Skip to details” button should be used if you are coming back into this game later to edit game details without re-doing your check-ins.
  6. You should now be looking at a the “Add Game Details” page which features two empty tables, one for Goals and one for Penaltys; As well ass two buttons labeled “Add Goal” and “Add Penalty”.

Adding A Goal:

  1. Clicking “Add Goal” opens a dialog seen below.
  2. Add Goal Dialog
  3. All of the data is pre-filled in for you in the drop downs except for time. So, to enter a row off the score-sheet where #15 scored, assisted by #7, and #13, in the 3rd period, at a time of ‘1:30′ power-play goal; I would simply type this: 15 <tab> 7 <tab> 13 <tab> 3 <tab> “1:30″ <tab> “Po” <tab>. This would result in the dialog looking like:
    addGoalFilled
  4. As you press <enter> the dialog will close, and the site will save to the server in the background and automatically update your “Goals” table. There’s no need to wait for it, you can instantly begin entering the next goal.

Adding A Penalty:

  1. Clicking “Add Penalty” opens the dialog seen below.
    Add Penalty Dialog
  2. This dialog works exactly like the “Add Goals” dialog above so it will work as expected.

Finishing Up:

  1. After you’ve entered in all that stats for this game, simply navigate back to your team’s page and see the results. There’s no need to click any “Save” button, as the server automatically saves stuff in the background for you.
  2. You’ll notice the Roster table is now updated with the data you’ve entered.
  3. For that game in the team schedule table you’ll see a “view” link in the “Box Score” column. Clicking it will take you to a breakdown of all the activities of that game.
  4. Entering stats also enters your team’s players into the “Top Scorers” and “Most Penalties” tables which appear on your leagues standings page.

CAHL Rule Changes for Winter ‘11

Friday, January 7th, 2011

There weren’t many rule changes this session and they are as follows:

  1. Playoff Eligibility – Players must participate in at least (2) regular season games to qualify for
    playoffs.
  2. Adding Players – No new players or subs will be added to any team roster from the remaining
    4 weeks
of regular season through the playoffs.
  3. CAHL Tie Breakers – If two teams are tied for points at the end of the regular season, the CAHL
    tie-breaker system goes as follows:
    1) The greater number of games won during the entire season including over
    time and shoot out wins
    2) The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs.
    3) The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire
    regular season.

If more then two teams are tied for points at the end of the regular season,
the CAHL tie-breaker system goes as follows:

    1) The greater number of games won during the entire season including
over time and shoot out wins
    2) The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire
    regular season.
    3) The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs.

What do you guys think about these changes? I’m personally a little worried about the change in # of games played to play in playoffs. I think we’ll see more teams ringer’n up!

Player Stats Are Up!

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

Player stats are live! It’s something we’ve been working towards for a while now and we’re excited to show them off! When you go to the new team pages you’ll see a new Roster table. This table will only show up if stats have been entered for that team.  The table lists every player currently on the team roster, including subs. It breaks down stats like: Games Played, Goals, Assists, Points, and Penalty Minutes. You can check out The Yoko’s page found here to see a fleshed out example of this. If you would like stats for your team, be sure to get your team captain to register or get the scores sheets and offer to do it for him/her! For instructions on registering as your team’s captain click here. Below is a picture of what a typical team roster might look like.

Viewing Game Stats

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

On the team pages under the Schedule Table, you should see a new column title Box Score. If a captain has entered the game stats for this game, this column will have a “view” link. An example of this is shown in the image below.

Notice the right-most column 'Box Score'.

When you click the “view” link, it will take you to a page which lists all the stats for that game including goals, assists, and penalties broken down in a number of different ways. To see an example of this click here. Once again, this link will ONLY appear once a captain has entered stats for that game. To register yourself as a captain so you can start entering stats click here.

League Update Email Alerts

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

If you’ve ever wanted to see the latest league scores the minute they are posted, we’ve got just the thing for you!  We’ve introduced a new subscribe button on the standings pages. When you subscribe to a particular league, you will receive a single email per week, which will hit your inbox within minutes of that league’s stats being udpated.  The button looks a little something like this:

Subscribe Link

When you click it, you’re taken the “MailMan” page for that specific league. You’ll see some general information about what the list is for, but what you’re interested in is the “Subscribing” section.  Simply enter your email address, and the optional name and password and hit subscribe. From there you’ll have to check your email you entered and click the confirmation link in the email you received. This is to prevent others from gratuitously subscribing you to our lists.

Lastly, I want to assure you that the security of the email address you provide is very important to us. We will never sell or give out your email nor will we send you advertisements from third parties.

As always, feel free to post your comments below and thanks for using the site!

New Standings Link

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

When you’re on a team page, you’ll see a new standings  link up near the top that looks something like this:

An image to show off the new standings link.

You’ll notice to the left of the link, we show you which league you’re looking at, as well as the session name, in this case “Winter 2010″. This link was created so that you could jump into the standings page for that specific league/session. That way you have access to the new Playoff tables for every league and session in the past.

If you were to click the Standings link above, it would take you to the Standings page for the Thursday D East league in the Winter of 2010 session. At the top of that page, you will see:

New Standings Header with session info.

As you can see we’ve added the the currently selected session name. It is there to help you keep track of the data you’re looking at. As the site continues to grow, and we gather more and more sessions of data, we think that this will really come in handy.

Since this this session took place nearly a year ago, and the playoffs have long been completed, you will see the playoff tables on the right hand side that look like:

New Playoff Tables

You should also note that any team names or league links you click will take you for the data for your selected session. You’re pretty much locked into that session, “Winter 2010″  until you either:

  1. Click any of these links at the top of the page:
Main Scores, Schedule, and Standings Links at the top of the page
  2. Use the team history table to navigate to a different session.
    Team History Table

If you like the new features, drop us a comment below and let us know. Also, we’re always looking for new ideas for stuff you, the players, want to see done. Just holler at us either in the comments or on the forum above.

Thanks,

CAHL FALL changes

Monday, August 30th, 2010

It looks like there are only minor changes for the Fall ‘10 session. They are as follows:

1. CAHL game ejection penalty for players who are playing with out signing in. Player will be able to enter the game at any time if they check-in late based on the late check in paper, but they must submit this paper to the score keeper before they start playing. If the player enters the game with out submitting the late check in paper to the scorekeeper or without even checking in then he will be ejected from the current game and will be assessed
CAHL ejection penalty. If the player is not signed in and records a goal or assists on goal then the goal will be disallowed and the Player will be ejected from the game. Also if the Player is not signed in and he is assessed a minor or major penalty then he will be ejected from the game. His penalty will be served by any player from his team.

2. Goalie can’t be jumping out of the way! As you know in our D and C west leagues the Upper Tier player is not able to score unless his team is down two goals or more. In the case the Upper Tier player is shooting to get a rebound and the goalie moves away from the net to give up a goal intentionally to get a face off in the center ice then the face off will be not taken in the center ice, but in the defensive zone of the goalies team.

Use the comments below to share what you think about these changes.
